1948 Washington License Plate

Flathead Rob and I have been hunting for a 1948 Washington motorcycle license plate pretty much non-stop since bringing his '48 Indian Chief home. They seem to me remarkably rare. Part of it might be their novelty, they are unpainted aluminum.

While hunting about recently I stumbled across these Pierce County photos on the Tacoma Public Library site. Perhaps this is also a factor:

"Long lines of Pierce County residents filled the second floor hallway of the old Pierce County Courthouse on January 2, 1948 outside the Auditor's office. Motorists had until January 10th to register their vehicles, or a $3 penalty would be attached to their registration fees. Anyone choosing to drive without a 1948 license sticker could be arrested and heavily fined."

Who knows. If you do happen to know where one is or even just have a possible lead, please let me know. I'd really love to be able to help him find one. I'll share the the reason for my recently renewed motivation to find one very soon.
