Full Circle

Full disclosure - I have wished my Yamaha GTMX 80 had a number plate since I was about 8 years old. My 10 year old has now hit full stride on it. It has been a complete blast to see him riding it (and sneaking a ride myself on occasion). When Vaughn started asking if we could find a number plate for the "80" needless to say I could sympathize. I looked for an original plate on eBay a time or two... NOS $500.

When I spotted this repop plate my wife immediately made me buy it (she's so rad). I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pretty excited to get it. I've been waiting almost 40 years.

2X Sexy

This one is bound for Bonneville. Perfection. Both the primary and carb setups are just rad.

1954 Triumph Sales Brochure

Original 1954 Triumph Sales Brochure - It appears to be in really nice condition. The hand written dealer pricing is sorta neat. $65 is more than I can justify for stuff like this. It's been listed literally like 100 times so I guess I'm not alone. Maybe it's not too much for you - I thought I'd list it here because clearly the price is not ever going to go down.

'Liv-ney

From Sydney's digital sock drawer. I love that kid!

Springer vs Telescopic

Struggling to choose between a springer and a telescopic frontend? Always striving for that perfect but seemingly unattainable spring rate? This Mad Max bike might have just what you need.

Lucas E3L Dynamo / Generator

Flathead Rob is helping me rebuild a Lucas E3L for my pre-unit project. I spent a pretty healthy chuck of time looking for a manual, parts list and a bunch of other documentation. I figured I post them here in case I ever need to find them again. It might save some time if anyone else is looking for them too.
A manual can be found here. The parts list can be found below.

I've posted photos of this bike before but it's still cool.

Enzo

This Enzo was in an impound lot in Dubai. I'm assuming the ashtray was full so the original owner discarded?
In actuality there seem to be mixed opinions among the automotive media. Some say the car was stolen. Others claim the original owner abandoned it while fleeing Dubai’s strict bankruptcy laws.

SpeedBird Update

A little bird told me the SpeedBird is still moving along. That bike is going to be simply amazing when it's done. How's this for detail?

VME Meeting

Just a reminder. VME meetings are in a new location now.

Ran When Parked

1949 Triumph Grand Prix Replica - I don't care that it's not a real one. If someone wants to buy this bike for me I'd be happy to make some room for it.

It's not quite as lovely as Tom Ruttan's but I'd still make room.

Tacoma Speedway

Here are a couple of gems from Tacoma Speedway.

Red Cogburn performs sidecar stunt - Tacoma Speedway 1917.

This just in, from our resident motorcycle racing historian, and all around good guy, Tom Samuelsen:

Upper photo: is a Henderson and the rider that day is one of two people who rode it. Wells Bennett of Portland Oregon or a national rider I have his name in the file [Red Cogburn?].

Lower photo: is Elmer Bergstrom that set a 24 hour record on a light weight motorcycle at the Tacoma Track.
The photo journalist that took the photos was Frank Richardson Pierce."

The bottom bike is rather unique. An Indian Model "O". Intended to be an entry level bike, power came from a 15.7 cubic inch (257 cc) fore and aft opposed twin, rated at 2.75 hp, propelling the machine to a top speed of 45 mph. Lightness, economy, and reliability didn't win too many people over; it became known as the Model "Nothing".

Tacoma: Motorcycle Women’s Wednesday Night Reception

June 17, 2015 at LeMay Marymount (LeMay Family Collection Foundation) in Tacoma,Washington.

I have been involved with only a tiny portion of the planning involved with Motorcycle Week at LeMay Marymount this year and I can already say it's gonna be a barn burner. One event I feel like I have to plug is the Motorcycle Women’s Wednesday Night Reception. The event will feature a number of women motorcyclists from the Pacific Northwest who have changed motorcycling over the course of their lives. This is the sort of event that might not appeal to some guys. If you are one of those guys I'd encourage you to consider it more carefully.

One of the woman in attendance will be Donna Walters. Flathead Rob and I had the privilege of chatting at length with Donna and her husband a few moths ago. She is nothing short of incredible.

- Donna finished 2nd overall in the 1952 Queen City Mud Run(behind Red Farwell who finish 2nd in the Daytona 200 the same year). Donna also worked as motorcycle delivery rider for many years and toured West Coast and Baja in 1950. Donna is an incredible story teller and is remarkably humble. It was an honor getting to chat with her for an hour or so. Donna is only one of the attendees.

The following are some of the others.

- Tammy Sessions, Bellevue – Desert racer, early AMA pro license, flat tracker
- Debbie Selden, Tacoma – At 17 years old took AMA to Supreme Court for denying her a pro license, AMA backed down
- Barbara Brooks, Tacoma – holds multiple land speed records at Bonneville
- Dawna Holloway, Seattle – 1999 World Superbike Sidecar Rookie of the Year, first ever all women’s sidecar team to compete at the Isle of Man TT in 2000

Comprehensive documentation on the amazing lives of the following motorcyclists will also be on display:

- Dorcas Sizer-dynamic event promoter for TMC, journalist, the woman behind the Women’s Auxillary of the TMC
- Evelyn Pugh-endurance rider in the 40s and 50s with TMC
- Gladys Dawson-went on a huge motorcycle tour of the U.S. and Mexico in the 1930s, built motorcycles, flew airplanes
- Buela Bennett-1920s champion endurance rider
- Olga Hartman-Washington State’s first female motorcyclist 1912 and first M/C officer in 1914 Olympia motorcycle club

I hope to see you there!

Fender Struts

I've spotted these struts on several custom Triumph's. I've heard they were original equipment on some Brit bike. Can anyone tell me what they're from?

UPDATE -  I now have an answer. They were used on Yamaha RD350, R5's and some others.

Indian Racer

Indian guys get all the girls.
