Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II of Britain has died at 96 in Scotland. The world’s longest-serving monarch reigned for seven decades.
Thursday, September 8, 2022 1:38 PM ET
She died at Balmoral Castle, her beloved summer home in the Scottish Highlands. Many of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were at Balmoral or on their way there, including her son Prince Charles, the heir to the throne.
Private Elizabeth Windsor joined the women's branch of the British Army — the Auxiliary Territorial Service — during World War II, becoming the first female member of the royal family to serve as a full-time, active member of the military. During her service, she learned to drive and maintain vehicles and prepared as a motorcycle courier.

La Bajada Hill

Photos of La Bajada Hill, some 100 years old. Kinda makes driving your Range Rover or G Wagon to the mall seem a little silly.

Jim Horner

Jim Horner 1969. The Horners lived around the corner from us when I was a kid. The Horners owned the primary taxi company in Albuquerque when I was young. Mark Horner, who was a bit older than I, used to organize impromptu BMX races in our back alley. I recall them using the trunk lid from a Checker cab as a jump.
