Sportster Flattracker

I can't really say why but I love Sportster Flatrackers. This bike is gorgeous. It seems almost a shame to have a flattracker that's too pretty to spray with rocks.

The paint on this bike is really cool, and I like flat-trackers in general (the whole Frank Lloyd Wright "form follows function" thing, but I gotta admit I have a strong distaste for sportster tanks on anything (including stock Sportster)...

The other thing I don't really lie about Sportsters is the look of the unitized engine and transmission construction.

To each his own.

That's funny! I have exactly the same qualms with Sportsters. IMO the Ironhead is easily the butt-ugliest motor HD ever built and I am no fan of peanut tanks. I guess that's why it surprises me when I like one...

Yup, I never met a peanut tank I liked either. That's why the stock Triumph tank is so cool. It matches the bike. I think WR racers had tanks that were sectioned to be narrower, but still had the classic shape. They look nice (kinda like the Triumph slimline concept).

Sorry to go all post-happy, but my younger son asked me what the definition of "classic" was, because I told him my style tended towards"classic". The best working definition I could give him is "stands the test of time". Most people agree that the OCC-style blinged out choppers with the beachball back tire will be the leisure suits of motorcycles in a few years... I defy you to find anyone that calls a Crocker or a Duesenberg ugly.
