One 1940's Atlas 12" x 48" lathe
One half dozen 7/16 x 1.75" stainless steel bolts
One 3/8 x 16 TPI die
One Machinist handbook, circa 1947
One brother with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Cutting/tapping fluid as needed
Mix all ingredients together in an overcrowded garage and lock doors until done. Filter swarf before use.
One down, three to go...

It's beautiful!
Sometimes, in some contexts, this hobby of ours starts to look a little insane. Then another weekend comes and I get to ride a little more and it all blurs away again.
Not having a lathe eats a me a little each day
Yeah. I've wanted a small lathe and a mill for years. Now I'm starting to think a brother with a lathe is the way to go...
He gets much better and I won't be able to afford him.
Go to YouTube and search on Tubalcain lathe... This guy is brilliant.
wow, they look cool.
nice blog btw,
Alp,
Thanks for the comments.
Obviously I've been jealously following your '52 build and Bonneville exploits. Saw the feature on your bike on Pipeburn today too. Great stuff. I hope to see my own '51 run someday before long (at a fraction the speed).
Your fab skill, design sense and meticulous attention to detail is really admirable. Thanks for checking in.
