Harley Davidson ST-165

This is a photo of the HD ST-165 Flathead Rob and I are working on from August 1969. Rob's wife's uncle bought it new in late 1957.

Everything on the bike was painted with a bush. Uncle Wally was a child of the Great Depression and a sailor so everything was preserved with paint. It was well preserved. People would kill for a Panhead this well preserved. It also resulted in a little archeological dig.

It's going to be returning to original paint.

From both a personal historical and a design perspective this has been a pretty fascinating project. The HD lightweights, originally built by the German company DKW, show remarkable design from a quality vs low pricepoint perspective. It's a pretty cool bike.
