Trestle

ATLAS-I better known as Trestle, was the codename for a unique electromagnetic pulse (EMP) generation and testing apparatus built between 1972 and 1980 during the Cold War at Sandia National Laboratories at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, ... Trestle is the world's largest structure composed entirely of wood and glue ...

I remember my Dad taking me out to see this when I was a kid. I always look for it when flying out of Albuquerque.

Cookie Crum

Cookie Crum (born Margery Coffman), also known as "Queen of the Hell Drivers,” lived in Clackamas Oregon for several years. Best known for her wall of death riding, Crum performed with various stunt outfits throughout the 1940s and '50s. She once said she couldn’t stand the idea of sitting behind a desk for a job. She probably spent more time standing than sitting on a motorcycle as well. Crum was born in Davenport Iowa in 1931 and passed away in 2017.

BMX Flashback

This photo was taken from right at the peak of the era when I was racing. I wish there were more photos of Tom and I racing, jumping and drawing crowds outside Zimmerman library just doing stupid shit. That said, I’m super glad we didn’t have high res video cameras in our pockets in those days. The trouble we caused and outtakes we would have generated I am more than happy NOT to have a permanent record of.

Mt Vernon, WA

This photo was taken in Mt Vernon WA in 1935. The speed limit is still 25 and it’s pretty well clear they mean it.

Pirelli Photo

This “vintage” photo was shot in 1986 by Helmut Newton for the annual Pirelli calendar. The word is Newton never finished the project siting personal reasons and the photos sat in the Pirelli archives until the 2014 calendar. I admit it. I bought I’m thinking it was a period photo from the 60’s or 70’s.
