Merry Christmas

Flathead Rob and I got in a very heated debate today about Santa's bike of choice. Flathead Rob insisted Santa had to be an HD guy. I argued that certain irrefutable evidence proved he is a Triumph man. In end it seems we were both right.

Ran When Parked

1974 Ducati 750SS - There aren't too many Ducatis that really capture my attention but if I had to pick this is the one.

Christmas

From the Zon blog. I can only assume this is what Flathead Rob's living room looks like right now.

Intact When Parked

1937 Crocker hemi-head 61" - Where's the rest?! I'm fairly confident based on a conversation I had with Flathead Rob earlier in the day I now have to pay him back immediately.

Hemi-Head Rob? Maybe not.

Ran When Parked

1947 Vincent HRD Series B Rapide - News flash. Vincents go for a lot of money.

Irish Road Racing

I've been trying to convince myself that riding in the rain is just not a big deal.

I'm not sure I'm quite this convinced...

Triumph Hauler

Ran When Parked

1938 Harley Davidson EL - Might well be my favorite year of knuck. There are more exciting color combinations but I'd still take it. Knuckleheads are the gold of "investment" motorcycles. It's funny how many are priced at $45,000 regardless of condition or originality.

Ran When Parked

1939 Triumph T100 Tiger - This bike has some weird period modifications. It's OK Santa, I'd still be happy with it.

Edsel

Ever since I was a wee lad running around with my old car obsessed big brother I heard the name Edsel and automatically associated it with this car and it's negative style connotations.

Then I saw this car at the Lamay Museum and was pretty well blown away.

Now I see this model A featured at Gooding. I'm not sure I'll ever associate Edsel with ugly cars again.

MidAmerica

A smattering of the bikes featured at the upcoming MidAmerica auction.

1949 Triumph Grand Prix Replica

For sale at the upcoming MidAmerica auction.

Knuck R&R

Knucklehead Steve's Knuck decided to take a day off a while back. She's damn near 70 years old, entitled to occasionally in my opinion. She looks good in the back of my truck though. I think I need one...

Tanks Tanks Tanks

I've been struggling a little to find the right tank for my current project. I've spent many hours working a rough early 50's Triumph tank that has so far been my favorite. I tried many other options including a great later 50's Pre-Unit tank and a slimline.

My old friend Lurker Tom just made the decision a little harder. One of my favorite non-stock tanks is the Wassell Banana. Thanks to Tom I now have one. I like the way the Banana looks even more than I even I was going to.

This is a Wassell Banana.

I like the Wassell enough it it may well change the direction of the bike I'm building. Previously the bike that most closely matches the bike I had in mind is this one (I still love that bike BTW...).

The early 50's race bike clone that I had in mind may end up looking a little more like this one.

Perhaps less flattracker and more early 50's drag bike if you will.

I'm not sure I'll know for certain which direction to go until the frame is done. In any case I'll have a lot more to think about. I can't wait until the the current chaos in my life subsides a little so I can work on it more. I think it might really help if I had the bodywork/primer done I both tanks. I plan to get that done before long.

Incidentally, the members I've asked for have unanimously preferred the Wassell EXCEPT for my youngest son who had zero hesitation about liking the Triumph tank better. He's the only one of my kids that was passed the "gearhead" gene.Too funny.

Thanks SO MUCH for stopping by earlier. Having too many cool options to chose from is a problem I am all to happy to deal with.

Return of Mexipan

I was just telling Flathead Rob how much I liked the Panhead Trent is working on when I was up at his place the other day. When I first walked in I hardly even noticed it. The paint is pretty amazing but I'd seen it around a lot in it's previous incarnation. That said the more I stood there and looked at it the more I realized I really liked it. The stance and proportions are quite striking in person. Any bike that leaves thinking nothing but "I just wanna ride off on it" is doing something right in my book. The museum piece 60's "show bike" is all you seem to see the last few years. It's cool to just see a no BS motorcycle.
