Cub Tank Adaptation

My buddy Vorhese was cool enough to remind me he'd done all the hard part of adapting a suitably sized Cub tank to a duplex frame. Vorhese, I hope you don't mind me snagging your pictures for reference. I remember thinking his adaptation was pretty cool when he first posted it about a year ago.

Cool stuff for sure, Vorhese. Too bad you can't also loan me the balls required to confidently cut up a perfectly go 50 year old part. I guess I'll have to find them on my own.

New Pre-Unit Stuff

This Velocette Venom is pretty close to the idea I have for the new Pre-Unit, sorta street legal 50's race bike. This bike is so damn cool.

I found a cool oil tank for the Pre-Unit as well. It's identical to the one pictured below.

I wasn't sure what it was from initially. Now I'm fairly certain it's from an early 60's Triumph Tiger Cub. I really like the shape but the size is a little small compared to a standard Pre-Unit rigid 500/650 tank (3 pints vs 6 pints).

Ironically the mounts on the tank I have look like they were made for a Duplex frame. There are guys that have successfully expanded the capacity of Cub tanks to run them on a 650. I'll just have to think about it a little more.

I've been thinking a bit about the the taillight too. I really like the Lucas 477/1 tail lights that were stock on the early 50's Pre-Units.

I like the stock plate holders too. I've been considering chopping a stock plate holder and reshaping it so it would better sit on a bobbed rear fender. This plate holder on the bottom convinced me it might be an idea worth playing with.

C@D Report

My favorite bike at Coffee today (aside from some the regulars of course) was this 50's Gilera. I had to post this one for Lurker Tom.

I saw Mango's (that's the name that seems to have stuck to Joey's Suzuki though Syd always calls her Topanga) big Italian cousin this morning too.

PJ taught my the starting routine for my '48 Norton International today. That should come in handy when I finally ride it home;)

1946 Velocette GTP 250

Anyone who really knows me knows I'm an absolute sucker when it comes to two stroke motorcycles. The sound, the smell, the everything. The just rule. I had the pleasure today of riding a 1946 Velocette GTP. The bike recently passed from one friend to another. The two of them have been friends for years and years. I've always just wanted to hear the bike run. I got to ride it to. I wasn't disappointed. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that motorcycle. The video is not of the actual bike but I had to post a video so others could hear. Incidentally bike I rode is a one or two kick bike unlike the one in the video. The other

Another crazy aspect of the bike is has an automated oil injection somewhat like many of the Japanese two strokes had in the 70's. If you look at the carb closeup in the video you'll see a metal rod moving in sync with the throttle. That's the injection mechanism.

One of the previous owners of this bike was Paul d'Orleans of Vintagent fame.

Heritage

Lifted from Her Majesty's Thunder. I just love this idea. The first photo was taken in 1958. The second about 30 years later.

I have some photos of Vaughn that would be so much fun to do this with in a few years.
