I must admit, I kinda like the looks of an SU carb on an HD.

That's really pretty - almost inverse Cossack colors. My 45" had an SU on it when the previous owner got it from his Dad (I have the carb now but not the manifold). I suspect he put the Linkert back simply because it was original. If I was building a bobber, I would seriously consider an S.U. I think they are simple and effective. Now, A.H. Sprite carb linkage... that's an entirely different story!
