Flathead45 sent me a rag with a great Triumph Bonneville feature story. I proceeded to obsess over the fricken steering damper knob on the TT on the cover. Guess what happened? Unpolish, unpolish, unpolish. I should be committed.

Maybe you should buy another one, and it can be polished. You can change it depending on whether you're in a polished or painted mood.
Frankly, I was hoping I was the only one with the "anal retentive" gene. Now I see that is not true.
