Triumph T100R

Spotted this on Big D Cycle's site about a week ago but forgot to commit the post. I have no idea if it's the real deal or a replica but it's cool in either case. I'm primarily posting the pictures because they show angles of the header pipes you don't see very often.

This bike makes wish I could get back to making progress on '61 T110 so much it's almost painful to look at.

1955 Triumph Tiger - This bike looks like it's seen some real action and evidently has the championships to prove it. Particularly like the factory style race paint.

I found this bike through Brian at British Ironworks. This is fairly close to what I hope the T110 looks like in the end.

Eddie Fisher Inspiration

It will surprise no one I'm somewhat obsessed with some of the bikes Eddie Fisher campaigned in the early 50's. I added the photo of his #42 Triumph to the margin of this page a several months ago so I could easily access it whenever I needed inspiration for my my current bike build. I was actually considering building a street legal replica of Eddie's #42 at one point. Needless to say I was thrilled to find this cache of photos. My plans of morphed slightly but I'm still spending ridiculous amounts of time studying early 50's dirt track and drag bikes. Who know what the end result will be.

I feel like I'm straddling the restoration and custom worlds in a really weird way lately. A lot of British restoration guys really look down on anything non-stock. My taste is often too historically rooted and unfashionable for the current custom world. Either way I feel like a bit of an outcast. Fuck it. As far as money permits I'll keep building what I want I guess. That's what got me into this whole thing in the first place.

Kaz's Triumph

I'm still pissing away loads of time obsessing over the perfect stock looking rigid rear section for my Duplex '61. I stumbled across some photos of Kaz's bike in an old issue of Greasy Kulture. It's the first Unit bike I've been excited about in a long time. The article says Kaz built the rigid rear section himself and it's just perfect. I bet I'll referencing back to this bike a bunch for awhile.

 

1951 BSA B34

I'm pretty damn fond of this B34 built by British American Motors and featured on BikeEXIF.

Pre-Unit

I found these photos of Greaser Mike's bike on his on his blog. It's crazy how much this bike resembles what I'd like to so with my '61. Wassell Banana, flat track pipes, etc. I love the pipes. They look home built.

Mike mentioned that they were made by Neil Fenton.  There are swept up a bit higher to accommodate right hand turns too... I just love em.

Ran When Parked

I found this T100RR tribute through British Ironworks. It's not much of a departure from what I had in mind for my T110. It sure makes me want to get working on that bike again. I'm still juggling moving expenses way too much to even think about it... I welcome the inspiration though.

Triumph T100R Special.

Pre-unit tiger 100 engine fitted into a ex WD 1944 3HW Triumph frame. A good flattrack frame giving good ground clearance and a short wheel base. Also a good steering head angle that makes the steering very sharp.

Also notice I angled the engine forwards slightly in new alloy engine plates.

Complete engine rebuild just completed under 100 miles ago, so still running in. Fitted with new standard size liners and 7.5:1 pistons.

Brand new cams and followers fitted. New shells fitted to a standard large journal crankshaft. New rods were also fitted. New ball main bearings fitted. New Morgo oil pump and a new lip type oil seal timing cover conversion.

Also fitted a reconditioned manual BTH magneto.

Twin carb conversion.

The lights are running total loss as there is no dynamo fitted, just using the brake light the battery will last forever on a charge. If you start using the headlight you will only get about 20 mins before blackout.

19" Dunlop rims fitted and shod with new old stock Dunlop and John Bull tyres. 8" piecrust front hub and scalloped front brake.

I built this bike over 2 years using top quality new old stock and hard to find period parts. No repro bits were used it's all genuine tackle. For example genuine Amal racing levers not those cheap and nasty monkey metal imitations hawked around by every autojumble Johnny. Also the extra long genuine Amal advance retard lever. The more you look the more you will see on this bike.

Also the entire primary drive is new. Including a full alloy competition clutch. Chains are all brand new Renolds.

New sealed front wheel bearings fitted.

Built in homage to the 1954 T100RR.
