45 Stats

I'm sure Flathead45 has heard this before but I hadn't.

I heard someone say enough WLAs were built that you you could have pushed one per minute out of an airplane for the duration of WWII. My history kung fu is kinda weak but I'd guess that's about 2,000,000. Did Harley really make that many or does that include all solos & servicars?

I had not heard this, and can't confirm or deny. There is one really detailed book on WLA's. It's out of print, and every time one comes up for sale on eBay or Amazon, it's about $300.00. I think Bruce Palmer wrote it.

I can confirm that if they DID drop one WLA per minute from airplanes in WWII, there would be no need to inspect the airframes for corrosion, because they would be well lubricated.

Oh yeah, after the Harley landed, it would probably still start. ;<)
