Trains

This post is largely for Lurker Tom. Flathead Rob and I recently wound up a cross-country U-Haul trip. We running pretty flat out but we did manage to make historical "gearhead" diversion. We hit the Golden Spike National Historic Site just a few minutes before it closed for the day. The steam locomotive was just pulling away as we drove up. The image of steam train against the snow was an amazingly powerful image.

A discussion of steam trains with Lurker Tom recently turned toward my Great Grandfather's role as an engineer with the SP&S railroad. Below is one of all-time favorite family photos.
