Ever since I was a wee lad running around with my old car obsessed big brother I heard the name
Edsel and automatically associated it with this car and it's negative style connotations.
Then I saw
this car at the Lamay Museum and was pretty well blown away.
Now I see
this model A featured at Gooding. I'm not sure I'll ever associate Edsel with ugly cars again.
For the folks who care, it's worth a trip over to Wikipedia to read about Edsel, the man, as opposed to Edsel, the marque. Edsel Ford was the only child of Henry and Clara Ford, and he was responsible for many innovations, but mechanical and style-wise, at Ford. Unfortunately he died in 1943. More than one person has speculated that his domineering father drove him to an early grave...
ReplyDeleteThe marque was named in his honor.
