New Mexico Plate

A friend of mine is a voracious New Mexico motorcycle license plate collector. This is the newest design. If I still resided in NM I suspect I might see it as a little too “campy.” Not living in NM it now makes me pretty homesick... and hungry.

Offenhauser

This vintage business card so reminds me of something you might find in my paternal grandfather’s wallet.

Insomnia

For anyone that ever wondered why I am an insomniac. Thank god I don't spend my time thinking about Volkswagen's though...

Blown Slant 6

Offenhauser supports funky. I wonder how much power it makes. I think I’d still rather just have a 340 in my Valant/Dart/whatever.

Vintage Motorcycles Stolen

Be on the lookout for stolen motorcycles belonging to local Seattle collector Brooke Barnes.

http://www.kiro7.com/news/warehouse-in-interbay-burglarized-by-squatters/663199275

It sounds like the motorcycles were stolen by squatters so I’d expect to see someone try to flip them locally for cash. The KIRO story doesn’t provide a complete listing of the missing motorcycles but the 1939 Magnat-Debon shouldn’t be too difficult to spot.

P38 Sweater

For the aviation buff that has everything. I hope you have deep pockets too.

Doo Rag

Tired of that drawer full of run-of-the-mill HD bandannas? This Johnson Motors bandanna could be your answer. Or you could just stop being a dipshit and wear a helmet.

RIP Bruce Brown

Legendary motorcyclist and "action sport" filmmaker Bruce Brown just passed at 80 years old. In a day when kids couldn't just watch every race on cable TV or the Internet his movie On Any Sunday II first introduced me to motorcycle greatness. Both Bruce's surf and motorcycle movies were surprisingly entertaining even for those weird people that aren't into motorcycles. Bruce will be missed. Thankfully Bruce's son Dan Brown is helping to carry his father's legacy forward.

Keith Weesner

Cool bike. I bet she came into shop without the intention of getting caught up in something and had a white shirt on. It happens to me too. I’m not much a fan of skin grafts so all my work shirts just have shop stains...

Wendover 1967

From the fine fellows at Frank & Grubb. Proof a picture is worth 1,000 words.

Back in the Gyronaut's day (1967), an as yet unidentified motorcycle crew sets its sights on a land speed record from inside the comfort of Wendover's best. Boris Murray (right) and Jim Cook (center) with Boris' wife looking on. Thanks to Bret Edwards for the ID! Still more photos from 1967 can be found in Hot Rod's Yearbook.
